The draw for the Inner City World Cup 2022 took place in The Mancunian VIP lounge of Manchester City football ground on Thursday 20th October.
There was an amazing atmosphere of unity as the team names were called by a panel of local dignitaries (which included our new women's football ambassador, the legend herself, Rowetta of Happy Mondays). The launch was hosted by Mark Abery, head of CUP Soccer Six, it launched the next chapter of these pioneering football matches.
The Inner City World Cup celebrates diversity, unity and positivity through the beautiful game.
Running since 1994, the events feature a variety of football tournaments and activities to appeal to all ages and abilities – plus there is music and food from across the continents. It’s a replica World Cup with teams from multicultural inner-city communities representing their country of origin in the full national colours. The game on Wednesday 26th stars the women's teams.
“It’s fitting we are to continue the building of our womens football initiative in Manchester aimed at making more opportunities for young girls from ethnic backgrounds to get info football.”
