Damon Albarn - our friend, pioneer and hero.

Monday 23rd March 2026 - Damon Albarn

We recently wished a very special happy birthday to the Soccer Six Legend Damon Albarn -  with a huge extra thank you from us all.

Damon played a huge part, on and off the field, in the early days and remains part of the ever increasing Soccer Six legacy.

This year's event - the 30th anniversary of the infamous 1996 Britpop special - is back at Mile End Stadium on Sunday, July 5th (a few miles from Whitechapel in Tower Hamlets, where Damon was born).

Since then, he has made so many people happy and we are proud his support laid foundations for what the phenomenon, Soccer Six, became and the momentum it created for an entire generation of celebrity and charity football, raising tens of millions of pounds, awareness and realizing dreams for many.

From Blur to Gorillaz and much more, the genius that is Damon Albarn remains one of the true legends of the international music world.

Best wishes, always from all involved in Soccer Six this last 30 years – our friend, pioneer and hero! Here’s to another golden era…

at The Musos Awards 2025, Electric Ballroom, by Rhona Murphy

2025's event was the first Musos Awards of this generation.

It sold out, with the music world attending, performing and/or supporting, from across the land. Hosted by Louise Schofield, in attendance were Peter Doherty, Rowetta, Laurie Wright, Kyle Falconer of The View, Tom A. Smith, Saul Davies of James, Lock-In and The Bands Come Out To Play winners FNTSY and 2025 finalists The Now, Harvey Jay Dodgson and Rikki Lee. A YouTube short of what goes on at the Electric Ballroom in London's Rock n Roll Capital, Camden, by Stanley Lane.

2026's event is even more of a (much needed) escapism.

Thursday 12th February celebrates the alternative arts renaissance with fresh energy and well-earned recognition for the scene’s hardest workers and brightest stars.

Artists, crews, venues, and visionaries who redefine British/Irish music culture. Watch also, the developments of Musos Awards nominees, winners and supporters. This is an expanding community. Founded in Camden’s original ‘90s Britpop heyday and reborn in 2025, The Musos Awards remain true to their roots. By 2026, doing what roots do. Extending underground.

The Musos Awards celebrate the artists, crews, venues and visionaries who define British and Irish music culture — on and off stage.

Reborn in 2025, the awards remain true to their roots: By musos, for musos. The Player's Player.

#thecamdencup HAPPENED

This nine-team tournament was born in 1995 (the involved included Andy Ross of Food Records, Damon Albarn of Blur... etc) - that same spirit inspired Soccer Six, Britain's original celebrity football tournament and also The Musos Awards which previously had last happened twenty years ago, 2005, at KOKO.

Sunday 12th October 2025

To this day, many of the major venues and players in Camden - all good sports -are involved.

Camden Priory/Festival did battle with squads from The Dublin Castle, The Electric Ballroom, The Elephants Head, The Good Mixer, The Hawley Arms, KOKO, Music Walk of Fame and The Oxford Arms.

“We are delighted to have brought The Camden Cup back home and collectively support the great work of Castlehaven for our launch.

The Musos Awards have always been about authenticity — musicians celebrating musicians – The Player’s Player.

Football and music have this unique gift of bringing people together, whether it’s over a pint, a riff, or a penalty shootout.

Camden epitomizes what we are about – it’s in our DNA - and we will collectively take this spirit into February’s Musos Awards and amplify it."

Mark 'Abes' Abery, CUP Soccer Six / The Musos Awards Founder

Camden Town spirit, community roots…

Most players were literally full of the spirit but still showed up in glorious mid day sunshine to raise money and awareness for local charity Castlehaven Community Association - and to highlight the launch of another Camden icon: The Musos Awards, which staged it's first ceremony of this generation on March 6th 2025.

While everyone was a winner, The Plate competition was won by The Elephants Head beating The Music Walk of Fame squad. The ultimate Camden Cup Champions 2025 are The Dublin Castle who overcame hangovers - and The Good Mixer - for glorious victory.

The cross bar challenge was won by local singer, Connor Barclay, from the band Scratchcard. The coolest team award went to The Hawley Arms, packed with band members and staff that really looked like the part.

The Oxford Arms and KOKO served up the game of the tournament with KOKO winning 6-5 while Camden legend and Musos Inspiration Award winner, Laurie Wright and the Electric Ballroom team, competed well, but were more focused on playing the live music aftershow!

After an amazing 93 goals, blood, sweat, tears (and quality food/refreshments from Kells Kitchen), over 60 players and their collective entourage made their way across the road to The Hawley for the live music after-party.

Following "ones to watch" performances from Rivergold, The Outers and Scratchcard, it was local hero Laurie Wright and his band that capped an historic occasion with a classic 15 song set, showcasing their forthcoming third album and the upcoming December Electric Ballroom headline.

“What a fantastic day getting so many of the pubs and clubs and communities of Camden involved. The weather was kind to us and helped create a wonderful atmosphere among the players. We really enjoyed the amazing live music and stayed until the end! Thanks to The Hawley, everyone that performed and attended, CUP for bringing the event to Castlehaven, Lee (MWOF), Kell’s Kitchen and all our staff.”

Tricia Richards, CEO, Castlehaven Community Association

About The Camden Cup

The Camden Cup is a musician-led football tournament that brings together artists, labels, and fans for a day of competition, live music, charity and community.

First held in 1995, it inspired the original Soccer Six and Musos Awards — and continues to represent the best of Camden’s independent heart.

It’s All About The Players

The Camden Cup once again brought together artists, labels, and fans for a vibrant day of football, live music, and good natured rivalry — a proper reminder that Camden doesn’t just host music history; it makes it.

Building on that momentum, The Musos Awards 2026 promises to celebrate the best of British and Irish music with fresh energy, live performances, and a night of well-earned recognition for the independent music scene’s hardest workers and brightest stars.

Following a star-studded 2025 lineup (hosted by Louise Schofield) that featured Pete Doherty, Rowetta, Laurie Wright, Kyle Falconer (The View), Tom A. Smith, and Bands Come Out To Play winner FNTSY, next year’s show will see a new wave of performers take to the stage and The Musos Awards Green Carpet.
The Musos Awards 2025

Public nominations will once again open in late 2025, encouraging music fans to put forward their #musosawards26 musical favourites (from 30th November 2024 to 1st December 2025), while final nominee selections will be made by a panel of industry insiders and artists, it's musicians, only, who will vote for the winners. As The Musos Awards say, “If you can’t play a note, you don’t get a vote.”

Camden celebrates all of this again on Thursday 12th February 2026! Short clip from The Musos Awards by Stanley Lane at YouTube from Thursday 6th March 2025. See you there, music lovers.

History of Soccer Six Roots

Before the original celebrity football tournament -  Soccer Six - kicked off at official football grounds since Autumn 1995 the actual idea began in London’s rock n roll central, Camden Town.

Mark ‘Abes’ Abery fused his love for both music and football – with friends like the legend, Andy Ross (Food Records, Blur etc) and more. The Camden Cup was born.

If 1995 was the kick off year then 1996 was even bigger, like the bands involved, creating some of the most iconic images of Britpop and Cool Britannia. Fast forward 30 years with Music Industry Soccer Six wins mixing up and coming artists with established names, this year, and more milestone moments next year!

2025: A Game Of Two Halves

Part 1: Team Soccer Six staged three triumphant events with supporting grassroots talent at heart.

February: 450 names applied to make an appearance at The Musos Awards. Hosted by Louise Schofield and Laurie Wright, six finalists played The Bands Come Out To Play at The Finsbury (Manor House) in front of the Soccer Six Panel. The 2025 winner is FNTSY.

A buzzing room of bands and artists networking – and looking hot on the Musos Awards green carpet - at Electric BallroomHosted by rising star in her own right, Louise Schofield, voted for (and created/presented by) musicians. This Event. Is. Incredible.
